Cley by the Sea Windmill, Midday, 2018, acrylic on paper, 29.7 W x 42 H cm

This was painted as part of a set of four paintings studying changing light for my university degree, Certificate level. I stayed just round the corner and spent all day drawing and photographing the windmill.

I particularly like this time of day because the brilliant blue and strong shadows make me feel happy.

Cley by the Sea Windmill, Dusk, 2018, acrylic on paper, 29.7 W x 42 H cm

This is Cley by this Sea Windmill at dusk that I painted as part of my Certificate Painting for the University of the Creative Arts/Open College of the Arts as a study of light. I love the way it has a Japanese print feel as the low down dim lighting flattens the windmill so it is defined by shape rather than tone. The dim yellow house light makes me smile as it reminds me how puny our attempts at lighting the world are compared to the sun.

Cley by the Sea Windmill, Sunset, 2018, acrylic on paper, 29.7 W x 42 H cm

Yorkshire Dales, 2018, acrylic on paper, 42 W x 29.7 H cm

This is my final windmill painting for my study on light for my Certificate HE Painting on last year's university unit. I stayed at Cley by the Sea and painted the windmill at different times in the day. The colours were so glorious I tried something different, instead of painting it realistically I kept the shapes but flattened the tonal variations by blocking in the colours to give it a print feel. I wanted to paint my emotion (these wonderful colours only lasted a few minutes) rather than an architectural painting.

£20

Another assignment from Practice of Painting, my second Level 1 university course.

This is from a photograph of my beloved Yorkshire, I've climbed up these hills many times, sat under the cool shade of an old tree and contemplated the world.

I love tall he different greens and the distant heather

£30

I uploaded it to Redbubble and think it looks great as a metal print, and I'm definitely going to buy myself a unique Yorkshire mug!
